1964年3月28日、東京大学の卒業式が行われ、大河内一男総長が卒業生に贈る ことばの中で「太った豚より痩せたソクラテスになれ」と訓辞しました。

。。。。と書きたい所なのですが、実は大河内総長はこれを言っていません。

にも関わらず、当時の新聞ではこのように訓示したとして報じられてしまい ました。なぜそういうことになってしまったかというと、この言葉は確かに スピーチの原稿には書かれていて、それが資料として報道各社に配られ、そ れを見た記者達が「これは名言だ」という訳で、報道に使用してしまったの です。ところが、総長本人はここを読み飛ばしてしまい（原稿が１枚脱落し ていたという説や、気が変わって飛ばしたという説などがある）、実際の 卒業生たちはこの言葉は聞かなかったのでした。
